What SumUp offers for free and what Plus adds
SumUp describes its free POS software like this: “There are no monthly fees. You only pay a transaction fee when you process card payments through a SumUp device.” According to its comparison table, both plans include the TSE, cash book, Tap to Pay and split payments, among other things.
For table service, a restaurant needs POS Plus at €49 a month (plus VAT). Only there does SumUp list room management, connecting ordering devices for orders at the table, menu management, staff login by PIN, splitting the bill by item, DATEV and multiple receipt printers. The product page says: “floor plans, table management and printing order tickets in the kitchen”.

Hardware and TSE
At SumUp the TSE is a “software-based and cloud-based solution” and free in both plans. Hardware is a one-off cost, for example (net):

Example: a restaurant with table service
A restaurant with one POS at the counter and one phone for service, card payment via SumUp terminals. Card fees and terminals are the same in both cases, because Keksu connects SumUp terminals directly. So it is only about software and the TSE.

When SumUp is a good fit
- Counter without table service: café, bakery or snack bar where guests pay at the counter. The free software is enough, the TSE costs nothing and a Solo is cheap.
- Everything from one provider: POS, terminal and business account from the same company.
When another POS is cheaper
- Table service: floor plan and ordering devices at the table require Plus at SumUp. At Keksu they are part of the free base.
- Taking payments without card fees: Keksu offers instant bank transfer via QR code; the guest pays in their banking app and there is no card fee.
- Free choice of terminal: Keksu works with any card terminal; SumUp terminals are connected directly.
- Team and staff: Keksu offers shift planning, time tracking and payroll preparation as a module in the same admin.
